Grant Recipient: Medical Animals in Need (M.A.I.N.)

Posted by Jennifer on January 9th, 2014

Congratulations to Medical Animals in Need (M.A.I.N.), they are a $1,000 grant recipient from the 2013 Veterinary Care Fund! We are so moved by the amazing lengths rescues and shelters go to give homeless pets a chance at getting healthy so they can be adopted – and think you will be too! Here’s how this grant will change the life of a pet or pets in their care. Photos are at the end!

Medical Animals in Need (M.A.I.N.)
Phoenix, AZ

A $1,000 Veterinary Care Fund grant will change the life of the pets in our care because vet care is at the heart of our rescue! Simply put, without the dedicated and skillful practice of our partner vets, Medical Animals in Need (M.A.I.N.) would not exist. Almost two years ago, a group of volunteers identified a gaping hole in Arizona’s animal rescue community- the need for providing costly and time-consuming medical care to the sick and injured animals brought into county shelters on a daily basis. These animals would otherwise have been put down due to their medical issues without a rescue outlet. Hence…M.A.I.N. was formed!

M.A.I.N.’s mission is to provide this desperately needed medical care to allow the animal a much deserved second chance at life. We are 100% volunteer based and to date have saved over 200 dogs (as well as a few feline friends)! We have worked with a wide variety of medical illnesses and injuries including broken bones, mange, emaciation, dehydration, burns and a multitude of other medical challenges.

We must say, we are proud of what our group has been able to accomplish thus far and hope to continue our work for a long time to come! A $1,000 grant would be a huge help in providing needed vet care for future M.A.I.N. animals. Truly, there is nothing better than seeing these beautiful souls come full circle: from a sick and neglected animal known as just an ID number at the pound, to a confident, healthy pet with a new name, a new life and a family to call their own.

Thank you for considering us as a candidate for this wonderful grant! We have included some before and after pictures that we hope show you just what our rescue is all about! (Click to see full size image, then click back to return here.)

HAPPY UPDATES received 1/9/14 from M.A.I.N.: Bailey was adopted by her foster mom and lives with another adopted MAIN dog, Sawyer; they are “regulars” at our photo shoots and are a hysterical duo. Java has been in his forever home for over a year now and continues to do wonderful. Chopper was JUST recently adopted and is doing great so far! I attached a picture of him with his new family. Chanel has been with her family for awhile now and is spoiled rotten (as every dog should be). Tugg is the only one of these dogs who is still available for adoption but he is doing great in a loving foster home and of course has an profile.

We have a Facebook forum where we are able to keep up to date with adopted dogs and many of our adopters stay involved with MAIN in some capacity. It was so hard to choose just a few dogs to feature in the submission; I could go on and on about how wonderful and resilient these animals are! Thank you for asking how they are doing now!
