Congratulations to the recipient of our 24th grant!
We’ve received so many wonderful submissions for the Purina Veterinary Diets® Adopt-a-Pet.com $50,000 Veterinary Care Fund! We are so moved by the amazing lengths rescues and shelters go to give homeless pets a chance at getting healthy so they can be adopted – and think you will be too! So we’re sharing some of the submissions, and all of the recipients’ stories here on our Shelter Blog. Here’s how a $2,000 grant would (or, in the case of our recipients, WILL) change the life of a pet or pets in their care:
Five Acres Animal Shelter
Formerly known as St. Charles Humane Society
St. Charles, MO
Five Acres Animal Shelter is the only no-kill shelter in St. Charles County, Missouri. We care for and provide homes for over 500 cats and dogs each year, and when space allows, we travel to other shelters to retrieve animals that are scheduled for euthanasia, thereby enabling them to have a second chance at life.
We are the only shelter in the area that has space dedicated to cats with FeLV or FIV. These special needs kitties have 2 rooms at our shelter where they free roam until they find their forever homes. Pictured is Maximus, one of our FIV cats. He is a sweet and gently cat that will jump right into your lap. Also, pictured is Maggie a beautiful flat-coated retriever. She was transferred to us from another over-crowded shelter where she was facing euthanasia. We brought her into our shelter and found out she was heartworm positive. She received her heartworm treatment and has fully recovered. She is so smart and loyal and has quickly become my regular office companion.
These are just two of the animals that our shelter has helped this year. Funding from the Adopt-a-Pet Veterinary Care Fund will allow us to care for more special needs animals like Maximus and Maggie. Thank you for your consideration and for all you do for animals!
