Grant Submission: A PAW UP Rescue

Posted by Jennifer on August 8th, 2011

We’ve received so many wonderful submissions for the Purina Veterinary Diets® $50,000 Veterinary Care Fund! We are so moved by the amazing lengths rescues and shelters go to give homeless pets a chance at getting healthy so they can be adopted – and think you will be too! So we’re sharing some of the submissions, and all of the recipients’ stories here on our Shelter Blog. Here’s how a $2,000 grant would (or, in the case of our recipients, WILL) change the life of a pet or pets in their care:

A PAW UP Rescue
Prosser, WA

We are in the process of erecting a building to house larger animals; right now they are confined to our home, in crates, until they get outdoor play time on a daily basis. With the kennel up we can more easily take in dogs that are larger than 10lb, anything over 20-30lb. is difficult for us to take. So we are trying to save each penny and put it towards the building. As a result, we have a few dogs here who need dental cleanings/procedures as they are seniors. We’ve been putting that off, hoping to find an adopter willing to invest that into them, but so far, no luck. I’ve attached photos of each girl who needs a dental cleaning!
Since those two situations would be around $400 combined, we would take the rest of the funds and leave it at the vet clinic to fund spays and neuters and those “extra” procedures like hernia and tear duct (cherry eye) repairs, and other health issues that might arise.

We’ve also taken in a number of parvo victims (owner surrenders as owner could not afford treatment), each of whom costs from $50-150 each for medications and fluids to administer at home. The money after the dentals would enable us to take in those dogs without worry we could not erect the building we are so desperate to have.
I’ve attached two pics of the latest parvo victims we’ve rescued.
