“Treated With Love by Bayer” Grants

Adopt-a-Pet.com is giving away $75,000 in product from Bayer Animal Health – that’s more than triple the amount of last year! Grants include Seresto® flea and tick prevention for dogs or cats, Advantage® II flea prevention for cats and K9 Advantix® II flea, tick and mosquito prevention for dogs. (Do not use K9 Advantix® II on cats.) These products will go to shelters and rescues to help them care for cats or dogs while they are waiting to be adopted. Thank you to our compassionate sponsor Bayer for their part in making these grants possible.

“People’s Choice” Awards

This year, Adopt-a-Pet.com is offering a special opportunity for two shelters or rescues to rally support for two People’s Choice grants of $4,000 and $1,000 of Seresto® from Bayer. The “People’s Choice” campaign begins on Instagram, but you don’t even have to use Instagram yourself to get your shelter or rescue entered. Just ask your supporters to follow the simple instructions at http://shelterblog.adoptapet.com/2018/03/peoples-choice-toolkit/ — We’ve made it super easy for you with this People’s Choice Toolkit of images and text you can just copy and share anywhere.

Checkbox for pet also needs a foster home

You’ve been telling us you needed more foster homes so you can help even more pets. We heard you! This new checkbox will help you connect to more potential foster homes. Check it when adding or editing a pet on Adopt-a-Pet.com. You can even use the checkbox if you are “AutoUploading” from your software, though it’s not available yet if you’re “Importing” from your software. See more about how this works here adoptapet.com/shelter/pointers/fostering_pets.html or try it out on any of your available pets from your My Pet List.

Study: Adoptions of older cats and dogs

Like so many of you, we have a soft spot for senior pets, knowing that they can have a tougher time getting adopted. Our friends at Maddie’s Fund shared a new peer-reviewed study by the University of Denver on what factors influence outcomes for older cats and dogs in animal shelters. Their two key findings can help guide you in your efforts to remove obstacles to senior pets being adopted.

Rehome-400

$60,000+ earned for shelters and rescues!

Has your organization been able to help more pets because of Rehome by Adopt-a-Pet.com and the Petco Foundation? It’s been almost a year since we introduced you to Rehome and, each month, we’re seeing thousands of pets avoid relinquishment because their owners were referred to the service by animal welfare organizations like yours. That’s thousands of pets who stay in their original homes until they find great adopters. That’s thousands of kennel spaces and foster homes that are available for pets who are truly homeless. And, that’s thousands of potential adoption fees paid to the animal shelters and rescues who are referring these pets into the Rehome system. In just a few months, Rehome has earned more than $60,000 for animal welfare orgs! If you’d like to learn more about Rehome and how we can help your organization help pets and raise funds, check us out or sign up for a step by step walkthrough in an upcoming webinar!

A Message From our Friends at Purina…

Keeping cats’ cognitive function healthy

As cats age, changes are occurring in their brains. Ultimately, these changes may lead to anxiety, confusion, and many other concerning behaviors. Studies have shown changes can start years before any cognitive decline is actually noticeable. The key is taking preventative steps to keep the brain working properly. Check out this information provided by the Purina Institute on early intervention tips your cat adopters can follow that may reduce the chances of reduced cognitive function as their cat ages:
