Abbie Moore, Turning Teams Into Lean Powerhouses!

Abbie Moore, our Adopt-a-Pet.com Executive Director and Chief Product Officer, gave an incredibly interesting “Lightning Talk” on opening night at the 2017 Lean Startup Week in San Francisco that you don’t want to miss! We might be a little biased, but you don’t have to take our word for it, as you can watch her 5-minute talk’s video thanks to http://leanstartup.co. Abbie applies Lean methodology to help Adopt-a-Pet.com grow and flourish, maybe you can use lean to help your shelter or rescue organization too? Watch it and tell us what you think!

Upgraded: Your pet list links!

By now you know that our designers and engineers have been hard at work on improvements to our website’s design and technology. A big and exciting project! We are continuing to gradually roll out the updates, and the next page to get an upgrade is your Pet Listings pages. Those are the listing pages you can find at https://www.adoptapet.com/shelter/listing_links that link to your pets for adoption. Most of the upgrades are behind the scenes, but one change you may notice (that many of you asked for) is the addition of “filters” at the top of your pets. Now adopters you send to your Pet Listing links can filter your pets by type of pet, age, and gender, just like on your scrolling Portable Pet List! If you have any questions or feedback, let us know at helpdesk@adoptapet.com.

Website maintenance

It’s that time of year again! On Wednesday, December 13th the Adopt-a-Pet.com website will be undergoing some scheduled maintenance. This includes approximately one hour of database downtime. It is scheduled for our slowest traffic time, within the three hour window of 9:00 p.m. – 12:00 a.m. Pacific. Within that window there will be times you will not be able to access the Adopt-a-Pet.com website including your Admin area or pet listings. We apologize for any inconvenience and thank you in advance for your understanding as we keep our website in tip-top shape!

Adopting out “hard-to-place” pets

Our friends at Purina presented a super-interesting study at the 2017 SAWA conference: “The power of positively impacting perceptions of hard-to-place pets among potential adopters.” Purina studied people looking to acquire a dog or cat in the next 12 months to learn more about adopter perceptions of hard-to-place pets (the adopter defined hard to place pets as those with behavior or health issues, older pets, and timid pets) and potential marketing communication strategies to help these types of pets get adopted. You can download the PDF of the presentation that shares their findings and opportunities using the link below. We hope what they discovered can help arm you with ways to communicate hard-to-place pets to adopters in order to get more pets adopted.

8 Things New Pet Parents Need To Know About Cold Weather

Although the winter environment can be beautifully dazzling, it also poses a number of hazards to pets. Communicating cold weather hazards to pet parents, especially new pet parents, can have a big impact on the health and safety of adopted pets.

A Message From our Friends at Bayer…

Pet health depends on new pet parents learning the basics.

You help give pets a healthy start at the shelter but it’s up to pet parents to keep it up at home. Educating adopters on the steps they can take to give pets a great quality of life is essential. And we have just the resources to help.
