Statistical study: Pet videos increase adoption interest by 135.3%

You probably already knew that videos help pets get adopted, and now a new statistical study conducted by Adopt-a-Pet.com proves it: a video’s impact is huge! In our study of 105,534 dog listings and 51,694 cat listings, data analysis revealed that, on average, by 50 days after listing a pet on Adopt-a-Pet.com, a pet displaying a YouTube video generates 135.3% more inquiries than a pet without a video. Wow!

If you’re not yet adding YouTube video links to your pet listings, we encourage you to give it a try! You don’t need to be a Hollywood director. Even short video clips taken with a smart phone can showcase your pets’ awesome personalities. A picture is worth a thousand words, but a video is priceless! Let potential adopters see how much a friendly cat likes to be pet, or a dog enjoys a playgroup romp. Take a tip from Instagram — their popular videos are limited to just 15 seconds! Film in daylight or a bright space to make your video shine.

Curious about the statistical analysis our statistician did to uncover the video impact? Check out the detailed charts on our shelter blog at

Springtime! Need volunteer foster homes?

Temperatures are warming up, and you know what that means… are you warming up your bottle baby foster homes? Need to make room for those litters by moving some of your adult pets into foster homes? For almost every area across North America, WE’VE GOT FOSTER HOME VOLUNTEERS who are waiting to hear from you! They As of March 1, 2016 there are 55,281 volunteers registered in our Volunteer database http://www.adoptapet.com/shelter/volunteer/search – and only Adopt-a-Pet.com shelters and rescues like you can see their information and contact them. (See the alert item below too!)

New volunteer email alerts

Did you know that you can receive an automatic email notification from Adopt-a-Pet.com each time a new volunteer signs up with us in your area? By checking the “Volunteers in Your Area” Contact Preference on your My Pet Publicist Info… page, any Pet Publicist (aka admin login email) can receive the at-most-once-a-day email alert with links to each new volunteer that registers in the Adopt-a-Pet.com Volunteer database. We determine “in your area” by an approximate 50 mile radius using zip codes.

The alert email subject line is “We’ve found new volunteers for you” and inside the email is a list of volunteers including snippets of their volunteer profile, including their name and city. If you don’t see any volunteers in that email that interest you, you can just delete the email. Volunteers don’t know which shelters and rescues are receiving the links to their profiles.

When you see a volunteer that interests you, click the volunteer’s name to see their full profile. In their full profile you will also see their email and/or phone, so you can contact them about volunteering for you  - like if you have a volunteer application or orientation you’d like to invite them to attend.
