Need a new website? Beta test our new free website creator!

For months, we’ve been working on a free website creator you can use to build beautiful websites.  Many wonderful organizations have been working hard to beta test its features, and we’re ready to add some more testers (12 each week for a few weeks, and then more after that).  Here’s your chance to get in on the ground floor and help us uncover any bugs! No need to know any code to use our website creator. The website creator includes features like:

  • Custom Adopt-a-Pet.com URL, or you can redirect your own URL to the site
  • Beautiful design with big slider on the home page and a selection of color schemes
  • Events calendar/listing page
  • Beautiful pet list that automatically pulls your pets from Adopt-a-Pet.com
  • Customizable online adoption application
  • Blog
  • Ability to add as many pages as you need
  • Donation feature that integrates with PayPal and offers monthly donations and tribute donations, too
  • Customizable menu
  • Image library so you can easily select beautiful images to use around the site, or you can create your own
  • Mobile-optimized design for your visitors (editing on mobile still to come)
  • No fees for anything, including hosting the website you create with the website creator

If you’d like to be among the first to use this feature, please fill out this very short survey:

Thank you!

Here are a few of our favorite evergreen holiday articles you can use:

Veterinary Care Fund

Veterinary Care Fund grants recipients

We know what hundreds of you were doing on cyber Monday: you weren’t online shopping, you were online sending us your grant application by the Monday December 1st deadline! All the applications are now being reviewed by our grant committee. We have one new recipient to announce right now: Congratulations to Harris County Veterinary Public Health in Texas! The committee selected the final 4 recipients and all have been notified. If you haven’t heard from us by December 12th, we’re so sorry, your application was not selected – we won’t email or call you if you’re not selected. We will be posting the final grant recipients applications, along with the eight already there, on our shelter blog at

You all go to such amazing lengths to get the pets in your care healthy and adopted. Thank you! We wish our nonprofit fund could help you all! But we are so grateful to our sponsors and donors for making the $12,000 in Veterinary Care Fund grants in 2014 possible.

Accounts with pets that are inactive for 6 months

We know how busy you all can be! Also, how sometimes that wonderful volunteer who’d been updating your pets suddenly disappears without any notice, and you have no idea your pets weren’t being updated as they should. That’s why we’ve set up a new automated reminder system! If your account is inactive, without any new pets being added or edited either via our website or by automatic upload from your software for 6 months, we’ll send all the publicists on your account an email. All one publicist needs to do is click the link in the email to view your pet list and verify it is all up to date. If no one reactivates the account, we’ll send three more emails over the next three weeks. If you still haven’t viewed, edited, or added a pet, then we’ll move any adoptable pets to your hidden pet list. You can always log in to move hidden pets back to adoptable with just a click. This will help us make sure potential adopters are seeing pets that are currently up for adoption, reducing their frustration, and increases the chances that they will end up adopting a pet.

If you have any feedback about this new system, please let us know by replying to this email. Thank you!

Purina® Providing Perspective

To accurately showcase the beauty of shelter pets, it’s important to take great photos of them. Thankfully, Purina® is providing the tools and techniques necessary to do just that at meettherealme.org. Check it out today!

And, of course… As always, we thank the wonderful, pet-loving people at Purina and Bayer Animal Health for supporting all of us in our mission and making Adopt-a-Pet.com a free service!

That’s all our news for this month. We’d love to hear what’s going on with you too, so please visit us on FacebookTwitter, and Pinterest to say a virtual hello! We are using a new service to send you this email. If you have any feedback, please reply to let us know!
