Congratulations to Animal Resource Foundation, Inc. (ARF) they are a $500 grant recipient from the 2014 Adopt-a-Pet.com Veterinary Care Fund! We are so moved by the amazing lengths shelters and rescues go to give homeless pets a chance at getting healthy so they can be adopted. Here’s their grant application detailing how this grant will change the life of a pet or pets in their care. Don’t miss the photos at the end!

On behalf of Milkshake, the Animal Resource Foundation, Inc. (ARF) is applying for the $500, $1,000 and $2,000 Veterinary Care Fund grant.

Milkshake is a terrier mix whom we believe to be approximately 8 years old. She was discovered by Animal Control on August 18th, 2014 in a Baltimore City, Maryland hoarding case, along with 19 other dogs, 11 cats, and 3 kittens. On the following day, ARF was able to rescue Milkshake (along with 4 other dogs that were a part of the same hoarding situation).

Upon her arrival at ARF, Milkshake’s most obvious health concerns were severe emaciation and severe flea infestation. Both of these concerns began to be addressed immediately.

Milkshake was then taken to our veterinarian, where she was examined, and her health needs were fully assessed. It was discovered that she suffers from both food and flea allergies (which made her deplorable living conditions all the more unbearable for her). She also suffers from chronic ear infections. Gratefully, all of these conditions can be treated, resolved, and/or managed. However, during this examination, it was also discovered that Milkshake has several mammary tumors that will need to be removed.

Currently, Milkshake is living in a loving, nurturing, foster home, where the focus is getting her to a healthy weight (and managing her food allergies), as well as, treating her other health ailments so that her body will be ready to undergo the live-saving surgery that she will need.

ARF has no idea how many years Milkshake has been living in pain, starvation and squalor, but we do know that we are fully committed to Milkshake knowing what it is to live a pain-free, happy, healthy life!

Being a recipient of the Veterinary Care Fund grant will go a long way in helping Milkshake receive the veterinarian care that she needs.   On behalf of Milkshake, thank you for this opportunity.
