Register all brands of microchips – for free!
.
The Found Animals Registry is a free, nonprofit service. Pet owners, shelters, and rescue groups can register any brand of microchip and update information online – all for free. By maximizing technology, Found Animals Registry aims to increase return-to-owner rates and live outcomes while decreasing the length of stay in shelters. To help reunite lost pets with their families, the registry allows shelters, clinics, veterinarians, and humane organizations to search for microchips and start a four-day series of automated Found Pet Alerts – via email, phone, and text message – to a found pet’s microchip registrants. This registry also allows rescues and shelters to stay as a permanent contact on the microchip, even when ownership of the pet is transferred. So your adopted pets can always get back to you, even if the owner isn’t available. No matter what brand of microchip, and even if you use other microchip registries, you and your adopters can u se the free Found Animal Registry to take advantage of all those benefits.

Adoption inquiry Form now asks for phone number
.
You asked for it, we added it! When we heard that you could really use a potential adopter’s telephone number, in case you couldn’t reach them at the email address they provided, we understood the importance. We’ve now added a phone number field to the Adoption Inquiry Form, which you may have noticed already appearing under the potential adopter’s name in the email that gets sent to you with their messages, under their name. We really appreciate your feedback about our current features, as well as your requests for new features too. Thank you for helping us make our tools as helpful as they can be in finding homes for your adoptable pets!

Pinterest 101 for animal shelters and rescues

You may have heard Pinterest can help you get your pets adopted, but who has the time to learn how to figure out yet another… what is Pinterest anyway? Not to fear, our Pinterest expert Michelle is here! She’s condensed how to get your organization started on *Pinterest, what photos to “pin” on your “pinboards”, and how it takes just four easy steps to get followers who will like and “repin” your pets. (Here’s one quick tip: it’s super easy to pin your pets with the built-in “Pin it” buttons on every one of your Adopt-a-Pet.com pets’ pages.) Ready, set, Pin it!

Purina continues to help homeless dogs and cats
.
Our friends at Purina® Pets for People continue to help remove barriers to adoption by changing perceptions of shelter pets!
One way that Purina supports shelters is through partnerships with Shelter-Me Photography and the Shelter Arts Foundation.  These organizations are dedicated to training shelter staff and volunteers to get the very best photo of every pet that is available for adoption.  You can learn more about this effort at www.meettherealme.org.
