Grant Submission: ResQpaws

Posted by Jennifer on August 30th, 2011

We’ve received so many wonderful submissions for the Purina Veterinary Diets® $50,000 Veterinary Care Fund! We are so moved by the amazing lengths rescues and shelters go to give homeless pets a chance at getting healthy so they can be adopted – and think you will be too! So we’re sharing some of the submissions, and all of the recipients’ stories here on our Shelter Blog. Here’s how a $2,000 grant would (or, in the case of our recipients, WILL) change the life of a pet or pets in their care:

ResQpaws Volunteer Organization
Yuba City, CA

I have attached a picture of a dog named Luna with Masticatory Muscle Myositis that one of our volunteers rescued and fostered until ResQpaws found her a family to continue her treatments (which are working) and give her a permanent home. I have also attached a picture of Nala (a.k.a. Carla) who was about to give birth to 9 puppies at the animal control shelter, but was rescued and is currently being fostered (along with her 8 surviving puppies) by one of our volunteers. With grant money, ResQpaws would be able to continue saving lives by providing proper medical care, spay/neutering, vaccinations, and transportation for the animals that our dedicated group of volunteers cares for. ResQpaws Volunteer Org. began holding adoption events in July 2011 to rescue animals from the Sutter County Animal Control of Yuba City where we have already already decreased the amount of animals being put to sleep by over 50% and we have also greatly reduced the amount of animals being surrendered. Our group of volunteers work to educate the community about responsible pet ownership and to rescue animals by finding them foster and/or permanent homes through online networking and adoption events. We foster adoptable animals ourselves (and find other fosters) until we can find homes for the animals and bring the most at-risk shelter animals to our adoption events to save their lives. Everything we are able to accomplish is paid for by donations or by our own volunteers and we are currently trying to raise money to acquire our 501(c)(3) tax exemption. ResQpaws has earned the recognition of being a reputable, well-informed organization that serves as a strong and effective voice for animals throughout the state of California. We have an adoption event every Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at VIP Pets in Downtown Marysville, Ca and VIP Pets is currently our only sponsor, which supplies only a location in the back of their store for our events.
ResQpaws Volunteer Org. is dedicated to making our county a better place for people and animals by:
• Educating adopters/fosters to reduce pet overpopulation.
• Promoting adoption/fostering of animals in shelters in Sutter County.
• Providing humane education and community information services.
• Serving as an advocate for animals and promoting humane standards.
• Enhancing the relationship between animals and people.
• Working side by side with the shelter staff in a positive manner.
Please consider us for your grant, as we continue to foster animals that require many veterinary needs, aside from the common vaccinations and spay/neutering requirements. You can read all about organization by visiting
