We’ve received so many wonderful submissions for the Purina Veterinary Diets® Adopt-a-Pet.com $50,000 Veterinary Care Fund! We are so moved by the amazing lengths rescues and shelters go to give homeless pets a chance at getting healthy so they can be adopted – and think you will be too! So we’re sharing some of the submissions, and all of the recipients’ stories here on our Shelter Blog. Here’s how a $2,000 grant would (or, in the case of our recipients, WILL) change the life of a pet or pets in their care:
Senior Dogs 4 Seniors
We have two special needs dogs in our care right now. They require expensive vet care and medications.
This wonderful senior German Shepherd came to us through another rescue group after a police raid in Jefferson County where 18 German Shepherds were removed from living in squalor in a backyard. Prudie is absolutely incredible! She is fully house trained. We’ve found Prudie has a number of chronic medical problems she’ll have to contend with for the remainder of her life. Hip Dysplasia with knee and hip arthritis and has been diagnosed with hypothyroidism. Due to her hip and knee problems she takes daily medication twice a day and sleeps on an orthopedic bed for her weary body. This lady wants nothing more than to be petted when she wants, a warm comfy bed and to eat good food. Prudie is a wonderful Senior Lady.
Mr Magoo is a six year old pug that is an easy dog to have around. He is calm and happy just to be in the same room with his people but prefers to be on your lap all day. He gets along fine with other dogs and sleeps quietly all night in a crate (except for the snoring). He is missing one eye but still is a handsome and happy boy. Mr Magoo has severe allergies that seem to be controlled with special food and monthly injections from the vet.
