Grant Submission: Madision County Pet Shelter

Posted by Jennifer on August 23rd, 2011

We’ve received so many wonderful submissions for the Purina Veterinary Diets® $50,000 Veterinary Care Fund! We are so moved by the amazing lengths rescues and shelters go to give homeless pets a chance at getting healthy so they can be adopted – and think you will be too! So we’re sharing some of the submissions, and all of the recipients’ stories here on our Shelter Blog. Here’s how a $2,000 grant would (or, in the case of our recipients, WILL) change the life of a pet or pets in their care:

Madison County Pet Shelter
Huntsville, AR

Our shelter, ten years old this month, is small and rural and the only one in our county. We are blessed with a fantastic manager who has been with us since day one. We also employ two part-time employees to help her. Our greatest challenge is the huge number of animals admitted to our facility on a daily basis. Due to our small building and low budget we are unable to spay and neuter dogs and cats in anticipation of adoption. Instead we issue a voucher for free neutering at our local vet as part of our adoption fee. If we are lucky enough to be the recipient of a grant we would use the funds in two ways: 1) spay/neuter highly adoptable young animals in anticipation of adoption (please see attached photos of a good example) and 2) purchase vaccines needed for maintaining the health of animals awaiting adoption.

We very much appreciate all that you do to help homeless animals, and in addition, we thank you for considering our needs.
