Grant Submission: Horse Feathers Equine Rescue

Posted by Jennifer on July 29th, 2011

We’ve received so many wonderful submissions for the Purina Veterinary Diets® $50,000 Veterinary Care Fund! We were so moved by the amazing lengths rescues and shelters go to give homeless pets a chance at getting healthy so they can be adopted – and thought you would be too! So we’re sharing some of the submissions, and all of the recipients’ stories here on our Shelter Blog. Here’s how a $2,000 grant would (or, in the case of our recipients, WILL) change the life of a pet or pets in their care:

Many of our pets/equine are therapy horses that do Equine Assisted Psychotherapy. There are some who are elderly and live their lives here at the facility providing education to all who come here to learn proper equine care. We also have Adoptable horses who are waiting to find their forever home. Our elderly need dental work done in order to provide them a better opportunity to eat and maintain their health. They and our adoptable horses are in need of vaccinations. This grant would allow us to be able to have those things done that we are unable to provide due to the lack of grants available because the economy has hit equine funding very hard.

See our videos and pics below of current and past horses.

This horse just came in February as part of a cruelty case. He is now in need of dental. We had to get his weight up in order for him to tolerate the sedation.

Dan is one of our Equine Assisted Therapy horses who is elderly and needs dental check as well as other elderly here.

This is a case we had in 2007 and shows what types of horses we get in here, the needs for vet care, dentals play an important part of getting them back to as healthy as possible–being able to eat. This is Mumie–to us, her name now is Millie:
